About Kate

Hello, and thank you for visiting my site! I'm a Registered Social Worker and Psychotherapist with seven years of experience in counselling.

I’m extensively trained in a range of therapies such as ACT (Acceptance and Commitment Therapy) and CBT (Cognitive Behavioural Therapy) and am fully certified in EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing). I take a particular interest in working with people experiencing anxiety (in its many forms) and those who are dealing with trauma. I enjoy learning new things, and consider it my responsibility to continue exploring new and helpful evidence-based strategies for healing. I welcome the opportunity to work with the full range of human experiences, including parenting, stress and burnout, grief, and relationship or identity challenges. I work with adults 18+ from all backgrounds, and I have extensive experience in and knowledge about working with people from the 2SLGBTQ+ community.

I also offer Clinical Consultation to other clinicians who are looking for support in their own practices. I very much enjoy and welcome the process of "helping the helpers."

My approach

I take a relaxed, creative and flexible approach to therapy, integrating evidence-based therapies in a way that best matches with my clients' way of seeing the world. I consider therapy both a science and an art.

I work collaboratively with clients on their journey, with the understanding and expectation that the majority of this work happens for a client between sessions, when they integrate our work into their real life.

I am dedicated to providing compassionate and effective online psychotherapy services, by creating a safe and supportive space for my clients to explore their concerns and work towards positive change. â€‹I strive to take an affirming, trauma-informed, anti-racist, inclusive and sex-positive approach to my work, and I am always learning and open to new information and changing perspectives.

Who am I really?

I found my way into this field through my own experiences with anxiety, and this gives me a personal and relatable approach that resonates with clients. I've been there, and it's hard.

Before I started my career as a Social Worker, I completed a PhD in Planning, where I studied the interaction between children and nature in urban settings. This research led me to understand the vast negative implications of our disconnect from the natural world, and the tremendous healing potential of nurturing that relationship.

When I’m not supporting others, you can find me reading or enjoying the great outdoors—whether it’s gardening, camping, boating, or getting lost in the woods. I also love creative pursuits (writing, drawing, stitching, and crafting), playing with my cats and losing to my kids at board games.
